Her approach recognizes something important: there is often more behind a young person's decisions than what we see on the surface.

Their confidence, family circumstances, relationships, past experiences, disappointments, trauma, sense of belonging, and beliefs about themselves can all influence how they imagine their future.

Aisha creates space to acknowledge those realities without allowing them to become the entire conversation.

About Aisha

People bring their whole lives with them wherever they go.

Aisha Word is an educator, youth advocate, and college and career readiness leader with nearly two decades of experience across education, workforce development, college access, admissions, customer service, sales, and community-based programs.

A first-generation college graduate educated in Delaware public schools, Aisha’s connection to this work is also deeply personal. She understands firsthand what it means to navigate education and opportunity without always having a clear roadmap for what comes next.

Her career has taken her from retail and customer service to Job Corps admissions, high school counseling, and nonprofit leadership. While those environments may seem very different, they taught her one consistent lesson:

Whether talking with someone in a fitting room struggling with how they see themselves, sitting across from a high school student uncertain about their future, or helping a family navigate a major education decision, Aisha has learned to listen for what's underneath the question being asked.

As a former high school counselor and current Director of Delaware College Scholars and Queen City Scholars in Charlotte, North Carolina, she has spent years helping young people navigate questions about identity, confidence, belonging, college, careers, money, relationships, family expectations, and adulthood.

Those experiences shape the way she speaks today.

Aisha doesn't simply tell young people to "dream big." She challenges them to:

She also reminds them that sometimes moving forward requires acknowledging what they've experienced, getting the support they need, and beginning to heal from the things that may be affecting how they see themselves and what's possible for their lives.

Her goal is for young people to leave feeling seen, encouraged, informed, and challenged to take action.

You Need a Plan Before You Graduate

Every student needs a plan for life after high school—even if that plan changes. This engaging conversation challenges students to think intentionally about what comes next while exploring college, careers, workforce opportunities, training, military service, entrepreneurship, and other pathways. The goal isn't to have your entire life figured out at 17. The goal is to have direction.

What's the Right Fit for YOU?

What do you actually want? Students are challenged to move beyond what their parents, friends, social media, or society tell them they “should” do and begin identifying education, career, and life pathways that align with their interests, strengths, values, financial realities, goals, and desired lifestyle. Because making the right decision about your future begins with knowing yourself.

Your Future Is Your Responsibility

There comes a point when your future becomes your responsibility. This motivational conversation explores growing up, independence, self-advocacy, asking for help, decision-making, learning from mistakes, and taking ownership of your life. Students are reminded that two things can be true: you can acknowledge the things that have happened to you AND recognize that eventually you become responsible for what you do next.

More Than a Doctor or Lawyer

Everyone in the world can't be a doctor or lawyer—and the world wouldn't work if we were. This conversation expands students' understanding of success by exposing them to the enormous range of careers, pathways, industries, and possibilities available to them. Students are encouraged to think beyond impressive job titles and consider their strengths, interests, personality, values, income goals, education requirements, and the kind of life they actually want. Success doesn't have one title or one pathway.

Start Liking Yourself

At some point, you're going to have to start liking yourself. This relatable conversation explores confidence, identity, comparison, belonging, friendships, body image, social media, and learning to appreciate what makes you different. Students are reminded that they may not have found “their people” yet—and that's okay. Growing into yourself takes time. The goal isn't perfection. It's beginning to understand, accept, and care for the person you're becoming.

College Without the Financial Regret

Getting accepted into college is exciting. Understanding what that college will actually cost you matters too. Students explore affordability, scholarships, financial aid, student loans, and the long-term impact of college decisions. Aisha challenges students to think beyond simply getting into college: what do you want your life to look like after college? The goal is to make decisions today that leave room for tomorrow—to travel, invest, build wealth, buy a home, start a business, support a family, or simply have greater financial freedom.
